Stampin' in the Prairies

First time for everything...

  I bought Liquid Pearls from my LSS a long time ago and it sat in the drawer.  While making this card I was wanting to give it a shimmery, snow like look but I didn't think liquid applique would work as I thought it would screw up his little nose.  So I gave liqiud pearls a try.  I love how it turned out.  It looks bumpy, yet smooth, yet shimmery.  Just like a real snowman. 

I will be honest and say that I don't know if I like the beads, but it's all good! :)

I stamped the main image in red and then added the liquid pearls to the snowman everywhere but the nose.  I colored the nose in orange and then sponged the edges with red.  I then paper pieced th scarf with DSP and added black beads to the eyes, nose and buttons.  I added the beads while the pearls was still wet so it would act like a glue for the beads.  I matted on kiwi next.  The baja layer was stamped with snowflakes using baja ink and then I used the 1/4 inch circle punch to make a ticket edge and sponged the edges with baja ink..  I added the buttons and main image layers next (using pop dots).  The brown DSP layer was sponged around the edges with chocolate ink.  The red DSP was sponged with red ink, too.  The card base was sponged around the edges with kiwi ink.  I added all the layers and ribbon to the card base and then stamped the sentiment in chocolate ink.  What do you think?  How do you like the pearls on the snowman?

  These Create-A-Calendar kits are available in the Stampin' Up Holiday Mini Catalogue.  I still can't get over how cheap these kits are. And talk about easy to assemble!  All the instructions are included.  I have been surfing the internet crafting world since I am im bed all the time and ran across some really neat twists on this kit.  So go on, order a few of these kits for gramma's, aunts, mothers, friends, anyone really.  For this price (9.50) you just can't go wrong!  And what a perfect gift!  I am giving this to my Grandma complete with addresses for our families so when she wants to send a card all the info is right there!

I decorated each page with  a sticker or two (came with the kit) and left the arrow stickers and some misc. ones for the receiver to use.  I still can't get over how inexpensive this is, yet my grandma will be absolutely thrilled!

Getting ready

As I am takin' er easy during my illness, I have had some time to stamp.  My mom flew in to take over my life and I am stamping more now than I ever have before.  Here is what I came up with to match the card from my last post.

I bought a whole shwack of these jars at Dollarama for 50 cents each, cheap like borscht I'll say! 

I filled the jar with scotch mints and then decorated using the same ribbon, cardstock and designer papers.  I stamped the tag and punched it with the small tag punch, sponged the edges with cocoa and matted with red using the big tag punch.

For the top of the jar I used the scalloped circle punch with red carstock and glued it to the lid.  I used the awesome Martha Stuart snowflake punch with baja cardstock, added a brad and then some stickles for a nice glittery effect.  Lastly I added some dots to the scallops using a white gel pen.  Perfect gift for a teacher, which is where this one is going!

I am in the spirit!

Even though I am stuck in bed day and night and am on 7 different perscriptions including narcotics, I am still sneaking to my chair (right beside my bed sits my awesome stamping center!), I still have time to create.  Just as long as I don't doze off while in the middle of a project and spill glue or ink on it! 

I can't remember if I told you that when I saw the new In Colors for the first time I hated them.  But I ordered an asst. pack of them just to try the colors out.  Well I LOVE THEM!  Especially Ridinghood Red!  It is a gorgeous Christmas color.

I used the q-tips and reinker (tutorial here) technique to color in the tree and stamped it on white.  Then I sponged the edge with cocoa.

Then I matted on chocolate, retired DSP and baja bllue.  I added the photo corners with brads attached and sponged the edges with matching color.  I added the ribbon to the card base and then matted above layers onto card base.

I did something really stupid, but come on, I am on narcotics and mild sedatives here!  I girl can screw ip once can't she?  I decided stamped the sentiment along the bottom in chocolate in a line would be cool.  Well apparently with my narcotic state I screwed up so I stamped a bunch of the sentiments all over the bottom. ugh

Lastly I added some stickles to the tree to give it a bit of seasonal twinkle.

My mom got me a new desktop for stamping yesterday and I am getting my hubby to set it up.  It is part of the white cubicle line at Michaels.  It came with a desk top and a shelf, on sale for $23.99.  As of yet I have been using a small student cheapy desk with barely any room for me to stamp.  So as my bedrest continues I will be stress free creating on a wider, better surface!  Yay me!

Help...

First off, I haven't been able to post because I was just in the hospital for almost two weeks.  I didn't even miss stamping or the internet, that is how sick I was.  Now I am home with tons of different meds and my mom flew in to help out.  My oldest daughter is having her tonsil and adenoid surgery on Dec. 12 and I am hoping that I am not back in the hospital by that point as I really want to be there for her!

Anywho, I am in bed (some of the meds the docs gave me are kinda knock-me-outers.  So today I am fiddling with the blog design and might post some pics later of the goodies my mommy bought me for Christmas.  She gave it all to me early as I can use it instead of staring at the walls till my next big test.  Man, I talk, er type, too much!  Have a great day all.  I will see you back here later.

It's beginning to sound alot like Christmas!

Ok, that was frustrating.  Typepad just threw my whole post that took me over an hour to post into the lovely world of the www!  Ugh.  Starting over....

Ok, this will now be short and sweet as I don't have time to do this over!

I am totally into the Christmas spirit- as you will be able to tell with the next few days or weeks of posts!  Between gifts and cards, I sure have glitter, glue and scraps flying all over the place!

Here is a card I made that took me way too long to make-3 hours.  I don't know why, I guess I just wasn't ever happy and had to keep tweaking!

  I am not good at saying I first did this, then I did that, then I did this.  So I am gonna do step by step from now on. lol

First, stamp the scallop stamp on blue with chocolate ink and add some dots along the edges of the scallops.

Punch out the image with the scalloped punch and sponge the edges with blue ink

Now stamp the snowflake from the inside of that image on white in blue ink.  Cut it out with the Coluzzle and sponge the edges in cocoa ink.  Add the rhinestone brad.

Using a pop dot, adhere it to the blue scalloped layer. 

Take a piece of chocolate paper and cut it out with Coluzzle.  Sponge edges with chocolate ink.  Adhere the scalloped layer to it using pop dots.  Add dots using gel pen.  Add taffeta ribbon to make ornament. (Got this idea off of SCS)

Cut out DSP layer using Coluzzle (one step bigger) and adhere layers to it.

Rip edges of chocolate paper and vellum paper and glue together (I don't have vellum tape as I haven't heard the best about it, so I used glue where the ornament would sit and glued them that way). 

Add ornament piece to vellum and chocolate layer. 

Cut out some matching DSP and mat on chocolate.  Add brads.

Sponge card base with blue ink.  Add layers of DSP, chocolate cardstock and ribbon.  Glue to card base and add other layers.  Add the brads and some stickles to the snowflake in the center of the ornament.  Done!

Playin' with the new In Colors

I have not had a chance (or project in mind) to use the new In Colors.  So in my paper bin they sat.  Well, last night I swear they wee taunting me at midnight!  "Play with me, get out of bed, paly with me!" :) lol  So I did what any dedicated stamping addict would do...I got out of bed and got to work!

Here is what I came up with:

First I stamped the flower with Stazon on watercolor paper.  Then I colored the flower using an aquapainter and kiwi, red and pink ink pads.  I also added some stickles to the center of the flower.

Next I used the spritzer with cocoa marker to lightly mist the background of the image as I found it was too stark and boring without it.  I then matted on red.

The designer paper was matted on kiwi, then the ribbon was added and the main image using pop dots.

On the red layer I used the corner rounder to create a scalloped edge.  Then I stamped with the wording stamp from the same set with red and then sponged the edges with the same color.  I used the brad punch to make the holes in the center of each scallop and then the gel pen to doodle each one.  Then I added the buttons and adhered the designer layer with pop dots. 

The card base was sponged around the edges with pink and then I added all said layers with pop dots.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment with chocolate ink.

Busy

I am up to my eyeballs with making and wrapping (in handstamped wrapping paper) gifts or Christmas.  I have had no time to edit and watermark the things I have worked on in the past few weeks.  I already had some pics on my computer from when I went to an upline SU! day in Edmonton.  I want to show you one of the cards we made at the make and take. *Obviously this idea is not my own*

Well, back to my Christmas gifts...I may be nuts going at it so insanely this early.  But it will feel sooo good to have it all done in a few weeks.
